Pay No Respect - Moving On

“Mini album”. Now doesn’t that sound sweet? Petite, perhaps. Maybe even delicate. What could possibly be concealed beneath such an innocuous moniker? A veritable smorgasbord of dainty ditties designed to delight, I would wager. And I couldn’t be more wrong. Moving On is a beast. There is nothing that isn’t angry about it. Imagine if you will – but only for a moment dear reader – a huge gorilla. Not just a big gorilla, but a huge-with-a-capital-and-angry-aitch gorilla arriving home late after an exceptionally bad day at the office to find his wife in bed with an amorous African bush elephant. I think you’d agree that the skirmish, the hoo-ha if you will, would be more than a little emotionally charged, yes? Well, multiply that by ten and that would approximate how this “mini album” sounds. Doesn’t sound so “mini” now does it, huh?

The band is a tight and focussed unit and goes for it from start to finish. They shift effortlessly from annoyed to pissed off to fuming to bloody livid to top-of-the-tower-with-a-gun mental. There’s no sweetness and light here. There are no lavish melodies that elevate the soul into the heart of blissful eternity. Nor are there any intricate harmonies that have been agonised over whether to use the minor or the major third. Nope. The locks have been changed and those poor suckers haven’t been given the key. This is hardcore. Got it? Hardcore. With-a-capital-and-angry-aitch.

The production on this album is phenomenal. Every instrument hits you like a brick. The bass sound alone is heavier than the aforementioned elephant’s bursting ball sack. The drums must be made of concrete to withstand the pasting they get. The riffs slam through the floor. And the vocals roar with rage and rancour. In fact, after listening to this a few times, I suspect someone’s gonna get it. Probably that fucking elephant…
